The Totkind story
Some news is too big
for a text message.
Chapter I
The box under the tree
Christmas, 2022.
Olivia Morgan was eleven weeks pregnant and hadn't told a soul except her husband, Ben. On Christmas morning in her parents' living room in Columbus, Ohio, she handed her mom one last small box. Inside was an ornament she had painted herself the night before: Grandma & Grandpa, est. 2023.
Her mom read it twice. Her dad didn't say anything for a long moment. Then everyone was crying at once.
That ornament has hung on their tree every year since.
Chapter II
The second time around
Same feeling, harder to find.
This year, Olivia found out she was expecting again. Their daughter Lily is three now, and Olivia wanted that Christmas-morning moment one more time. She wanted it to look like them: their names, their year, even their dog, Biscuit.
Everything she found looked the same. Generic fonts, generic families, made for anyone.
"I just wanted the people I love to have something to hold when they heard the news."
Chapter III
The kitchen table
Sketches after bedtime.
So after Lily went to sleep, Olivia and Ben started designing at the kitchen table: little families you could make look like your own, names in handwriting, a space for the due date. The first ones went to their parents, to Ben's sister, and to a friend who had just found out she was expecting.
They called it Totkind: tot for the little ones, kin for the people who love them.
In her own words
I didn't set out to start a business. I wanted the people I love to have something to hold when they heard the news, and to find it again every December.
We're starting with ornaments, but Totkind is for every step: the bump, the first Christmas, the first steps, and everything after.
If you're about to tell someone your news, I hope we can help you make that moment last.
From bump to baby, and beyond.
